It seems like only yesterday we were ripping the wrapping paper off our Christmas presents and drinking prosecco for breakfast (well, we were in my household anyway), but these days the second the shops press eject on the Christmas song CD for another year, the St Valentines Day gifts and cards start popping up!
Valentines Day is not just a chance to treat your loved one with chocolates and roses one day of the year… I use it as an opportunity to get cosy 🙂
Mood lighting, a roaring fire and warm blankets you can cuddle under are what Valentines is all about for me, so I make an effort at this time of year to start cosy-fying my home.
Browsing online this week I’ve found some lovely interior décor ideas that are both romantic and cute without being kitch…
“When I fall in love… it will be forever”
clockwise from left: ‘Love’ Balloon / Hanging Copper Heart / Personalised Penguin Love Cushion
Not all Valentine themed decorations are cheap & tacky (cue singing teddy bears & petrol station flowers) – there’s an abundance of modern contemporary home wares available that can be used all year round. Many in gorgeous on-trend colours and finishes like warm copper and gold metallics.
“I saw the light… in your eyes”
Heart Tealights / Heart Neon Light / Pink Heart String Lights / LED Heart Light
Despite the number of string lights I have in the house running into double-digits, there is always room for more! As you know myself and Abby do have a soft spot for all things neon, but if you don’t have the room or the budget for a neon heart light then a few of these gorgeous heart-shaped tea lights will still create the right mood.
“Your kiss is sweet… as sweet as candy”
clockwise from top-left: Greyscale Heart Bowls / Heart Tea Infuser / Heart Shaped Double Wall Tea Cup / White Heart Plates (set of 2) / Copper Heart Fruit Bowl
If the way to a man’s heart (or a woman’s in my experience) is through their stomach, then I’ve found my next Valentine-themed kitchen accessory…
Marble Heart Cheese Board & Copper Cheese Knife Set
If like me you prefer to stay in on Valentines night, this stunning marble cheese board is perfect for finishing off your candlelit dinner for two. And when it’s not in use as a cheese board (cause lets face it, it’ll only get used when you have guests over) it’ll make an elegant centrepiece for your dining or coffee table that you can place candles, or even a decanter and glasses on 🙂
“I wanna hold your hand…”
I Would Walk Over Lego For You Print / Personalised Sausage Dog Print / Geometric Love Art Print
If you can’t say it with words, say it with… art.
A well chosen art print can add colour to your home, make you smile, or provide a motivational quote to get you going in the morning. They can also be romantic (I mean, what’s more romantic than walking over Lego for the one you love!), and whether its personalised or ‘off-the-shelf’ they are a lovely reminder you can display all year.
Personally I will be investing in this beautiful line drawing from iamfy.co very soon – I just love the simplicity and sentiment of the composition.
Pinky Promise Art Print
But remember Valentines Day is not just for lovers. It’s a celebration of all the people in your life that you love. Send flowers to your mum, call your dad for a chat, spend the day with your siblings or dance on tables with your best friend…
Whatever you end up doing, have a blast!
